I crocheted a scarf for dad using Patons Classic Wool yarn and a 5mm/H hook. It used just over two balls (205m/223yds/100g/3.5oz) of New Denim color. It’s a pretty cool color. One thing that I may do next time is choose a less dense stitch. Such dense stitching made the scarf quite thick and not [...]

So I finally finished the blanket I started last winter for Hans. He likes it a lot, I think. =) The pattern was titled “For the Man” from my pattern book “50 Sensational Crochet Afghans & Throws”. I used Lion Brand Homespun yarn as specified on the pattern in color #320 Regency. The front post [...]

Some time between Wednesday and today, the dwarf puffer committed suicide. We found him dried up on the table next to the betta’s tank. Why did he jump? I’m so sad.

Two days ago, Hans mentioned that he saw a really pretty crowntail betta at the store and asked if he could get it. I never said he could, though I never said no, either. Yesterday, he failed to hide the Aquarium Adventure bag, so I had to assume that he bought the fish. Sure enough, [...]

Last week Friday and also this past Friday, I got together with the girls to crochet and knit together. It’s a good relaxing time for us women to just chat and make neat things with yarn. However, this means I am not home all day. Last night when I returned, I found that Hans has [...]

So tonight was feeding night for puffer. Hans feeds him live blackworms every other evening. It’s rather fascinating watching the puffer assess the worm and then down it in one really quick slurp. Tonight’s slurp, however, was a little too quick. He was so quick that even though most of the worm went into his [...]

Our third betta died today. We had him the longest and have no idea how or why he got sick. He was acting weird last night after his water change and by the time we got back from church today, he had passed away. So, no more betta. That tank now only has snails and [...]

I like our garden. It was started last summer around August. There wasn’t much rain last summer and watering the garden was a pain. This spring/summer, the rain has been so abundant; it’s awesome!! Here are some pictures of our garden as it is now. Some of the plants from last year did not come [...]

It was nice knowing you. Blue betta died today. I am mourning. He was so pretty. Hans says that ‘purebreds are weaker’, though I think that part of his death may have been the other fish in the tank that was stressing him out. So very unfortunate, so very sad. The red betta, though older [...]

Dear mr. dwarf puffer fish, We did not have you for very long. You were fun to watch while you hunt snails and try to eat them. You were the tiniest submarine ever—no larger than the tip of my pinky. Your stealthy ways and bright eyes will be missed. Hans found you puffed up at [...]
